If you are looking to buy a good FRS radio, check out Bill's 2 Way Radio.
Two way radios can be used at haunts and parties in many different ways. The newest type of two way radio is the Family Service Radio (FRS) that is now sold by every
major electronics manufacture and are starting to show up at more retail stores. Some of the brands out there are Motorola, Cobra, Uniden, AudioVox, ICOM, Colemen, Kenwood, etc.
An FRS radio has a communication range of about 2 miles, depending on terrain and structures. There are one and two channel versions and 15 channel versions. Some have
privacy codes and others do not. For detailed FAQs and information, check out the GRMS Web Magazine.
How in the world can I incorporate a two way radio into my parties and haunts? Well, first and foremost, the radio act as great communication devices to keep tack of
different parts of your party and company. In addition, your haunt assistants can all keep in touch to deliver timely and effective scares and setups. All FRS radios come with a two external jacks, one
for a microphone and the other for an ear piece or head phones. You can buy headsets or speaker microphones and even Voice Activated (VOX) equipment. Some units even have VOX built-in.
Another possibility is to hide a radio in a prop, such as a pumpkin, and be able to remotely have it talk by using the other radio. Unlike CBs, the FRS radios have an
automatic squelch feature that only allows audible transmission to be heard when there is sufficient communication.
Still another idea is to use the external audio out jack and plug it into an amplified speaker system; computer speakers for instance. This could almost function like a
PA. Wouldn't it be neat if you could communicate to your visitors at different locations of your haunt? With 15 different channels, you could have one radio be a transmitter and many others act as
receivers. On each turn or room of your haunt, you could effectively welcome new visitors.
