There are some good sites on the internet that have implemented a scissor prop, a prop powered by a scissor mechanism in lieu of an air ram (air cylinder) or windshield
wiper motor, gear motor, etc. The idea is brilliant, but requires some manufacturing of a scissor mechanism. Instead of hand making parts for a prop, I tend to look for existing household or already
manufactured components that might be used instead of making something from hand.
I’ve found two substitutes for the scissor mechanism, a “scissor mirror” and a “folding aluminum
clothes-drying rack”. Pictures of both can be seen below.

I found both of these items at Goodwill. There are many types of wooden clothes racks that have the scissor setup, but I’m not sure if the wooden doll rods are strong
enough to support a prop. Maybe a lightweight prop…with a light weight air cylinder. The aluminum looks much more promising as far as strength goes, but probably, still, can support only a light weight
prop. The arms of the scissor are made of very lightweight tube aluminum.
The scissor mirror has a stronger scissor mechanism, but isn’t as far reaching as the cloths rack one. It is much
smaller over all. Again, I’m not sure the mechanism will support more than a light weight prop, but the possibilities seem good.
